Joe and Boy

After being deposed as Speaker of the House, Jose De Venecia (JDV) calls for a moral revolution council. Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno has politely declined his election as chair of this council (inspite being absent during its convocation).

Many have taken JDV's actions lightly. Had he started this moral revolution way back when he was in power then people might have rallied behind him. Instead, he was looked upon (or down might be a better description)as a traditional politician who led a rubber stamp House to every whims of the Palace. Somebody more credible should take the lead in this!

Is it already late for JDV to repent and make amends? I don't think so. If he is sorry for his failures, then he must, first and foremost, burn bridges with the President. For some this might be a political suicide, but if he really wants to expose the powers-that-be then he must, as advised by many, "cut and cut clean". No if or buts.

JDV's successor, Prospero Nograles, is starting to shed his true colour these past few days. He expressed thoughts of taxing churchmen if they are found to be involved in politics.

Being an ally of the President, I believe that this man is trying to do his fair share of terrorizing people who would stand against the Arroyo government.

As the cliche goes: "Huwag mo na kaming takutin dahil matagal na kaming takot." (Don't scare us any further. We are already scared.)

Mind you, this isn't an excuse for cowardice for fear is an element of courage.

This year, the Solemnity of St Joseph will be celebrated on 15 March 2008. The 19th, which is the traditional feast date, falls on Holy Wednesday. Since Holy Wednesday has eminence over St Joseph's feast, the latter is moved to another date. One way to prepare for this event is to pray "The Seven Sorrows and Joys of St Joseph". Copies could be downloaded on this website.

Happy Mothers' Day to all moms out there! Unlike the US and the Philippines, this special occasion is celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday of Lent (2 March this year). One of the traditions done during this day was people would worship in the nearest biggest church in their locality (i.e. the cathedral, the 'mother' church in a particular arch/diocese). Also, young boys and girls in service (e.g. army, navy, etc) were allowed one day in the year to visit their families. This visit occurs during Mothers' Day.
